Why it’s important to Celebrate Success
We all set goals for ourselves and we work really hard to achieve those goals. Celebrating success and recognising success is a very powerful motivator for individuals and teams because it reinforces the meaning behind all that hard work. Celebrating shows appreciation for the achievements it boosts our self-esteem and it motivates us to take the next step towards achieving the next goal.
5 ways to celebrate
You can make a celebration as big or small as you want, the main thing is you CELEBRATE!
- Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment
- Share your achievement with friends, family, colleagues, your neighbours, the dog, anybody.
- Document your success, take a picture, print out your certification, write it down in your journal.
- Tweet it, LinkedIn-it, Facebook-it, Instagram-it, TikTok-it, put it out there and be proud!
- Reward yourself. (Yes, you can buy those shoes now!)
Why this blog about celebrating your milestones?
Well, we tend to trivialise our successes. Why, after all your effort, knowledge and time you spent to get to your goal, we don’t spend time to take time to reflect, to enjoy and celebrate? 99,9% of the time we are already wrapped up in the next challenge, reaching our next goal or attracting our next customer.
Celebrating milestones brings us joy. When we feel joy in our bodies two types of neurotransmitters are released in our brain, dopamine and serotonin. Those two chemicals boost our happiness level. So Celebrating makes us happy.
If you find it difficult to celebrate your milestones, start writing down everything you achieved in a week or a month. After a month you will see how much you have accomplished and you start to celebrate ‘the whole month’. If you get used to that, you select every month 3 milestones you want to celebrate separately. Pick 1 of the five ways to celebrate and write down how that makes you feel.
When you are comfortable celebrating 3 milestones a month, try celebrating a milestone you reached instantly. So, you reach your goal, then immediately set up a celebration moment and enjoy the moment.
Celebrate more. Be happier.
